At some point, most of us face the hard truth that staying toned is hard work. Sometimes, it feels virtually impossible. Eating healthy foods may work to keep weight where it should be for our frame, and a few hours a week in the gym may keep unsightly bulges at bay, but what if you want more? Does the body’s predisposition to store fat mean that your dreams of a sculpted body will never be attained? Maybe not.
In recent years, several different body contouring solutions have been developed. Liposuction has been refined to extract stubborn fat cells from large and small areas. CoolSculpting offers fat reduction in common trouble spots like the tummy and thighs. There are even techniques that can eliminate cellulite! However, a solution for soft, lax muscles has been lacking. Until now. We are proud to be one of the first Emsculpt® providers in the Fresno area and want to help you decide if this treatment is right for you.
What Is Emsculpt?
As the name suggests, Emsculpt is a body contouring treatment. It’s more than that, though; this device doesn’t work by removing fat, it works by toning the muscles. Just like you would do in the gym. Except better. During a single treatment, the Emsculpt device triggers swift, repetitive muscle contractions using high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy known as HIFEM. These aren’t just any old muscle contractions. What happens under the influence of HIFEM is an intense and frequent stimulation that is equal to about 20,000 crunches or squats. That’s more than the average person does in a few gym sessions, let alone a 30-minute nonstrenuous visit with their cosmetic dermatologist.
The effects of HIFEM in the deep muscle tissue does two things. First, it causes strong muscle contractions that work in the same way as exercise, but better. Second, because the muscles are moving swiftly and strongly, fat cells in the area are also disrupted, resulting in shrinkage.
Why Consider Emsculpt?
Most people consider Emsculpt because they want the results this treatment offers, of course! An aspect of treatment that is very appealing is that there is no downtime. After a session, patients can expect to feel slightly sore; they did just “work out,” after all.
While Emsculpt is not a weight-loss technique, it can achieve excellent results in people who are at a healthy weight for their body frame and who have good muscle tone. Having good muscle tone doesn’t mean that you’re already toned and tight (why would you need treatment if you were?), it means your muscles have enough strength to respond well to HIFEM energy.
Currently, Emsculpt is performed on the buttocks or the abdomen. The best results are achieved with a series of approximately 4 treatments, after which, muscle tone can be maintained with healthy lifestyle habits and occasional touch-up Emsculpt sessions.
