Tattoos can be beautiful art, fun expressions of your personality, and mementos of important things in your life—however, for one reason or another, many people end up regretting the tattoo they’ve chosen. Sometimes tattoos can remind people of painful ended relationships. Other people find that the cheap tattoo they got during their college days doesn’t look as nice as they hoped it would. In other cases, people simply feel like a tattoo no longer suits them. If you have a tattoo you regret, you have options, here’s what you can do:
Temporarily Hide Your Tattoo
If you think you might want to have your tattoo removed, but you aren’t completely sure, you can temporarily cover it with clothing, makeup, or jewelry. Do you miss the silly, cheap tattoo you got with your best friend when you were eighteen, or do you finally feel like yourself now that it isn’t visible? Tattoo removal is permanent, so it is important to be sure you want to get rid of your tattoo.
Replace It With A New Tattoo
If you still like tattoos and you still like the placement of your tattoo, consider having a tattoo artist cover it with a newer, better tattoo. Many talented tattoo artist can create a new design that will cover an old tattoo. It may help to schedule a few tattoo removal sessions to fade the old tattoo before getting the new tattoo inked. If you choose this option, make sure you are absolutely sure you love the tattoo, the placement, and the design. It will be much harder (or impossible) to remove or cover up a tattoo once it has been tattooed over.
Have The Tattoo Removed
If your tattoo embarrasses you, causes you emotional pain, or doesn’t suit you any longer, having it permanently removed may be your best option. If you choose this option, you’ll need to schedule multiple appointments to have the tattoo completely removed. A laser will be used to break down the ink in your skin. Sessions are usually about 6 weeks apart. The number of sessions you’ll need will depend on the size and color of your tattoo.
